What is Male Factor Infertility?
Infertility is defined by the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) as a disease of the reproductive system that impedes the body from performing its basic function of reproduction.
Although society usually directs its attention towards the woman, the male can also be the cause of infertility.
Some of the common causes of male infertility include inflammatory conditions, Hormonal imbalance, autoimmune disorders, or immune problems, certain lifestyle behaviors, sexually transmitted disease, scar tissue from surgery, and some genetic disorders. Others may be due to:
- Slow sperm
- Poor motility
- Low sperm count
- Erectile dysfunction
- Premature ejaculation
- Liver or kidney disease
- Treatment(s) used for seizure disorders
