As we observe Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it’s vital to acknowledge the importance of holistic approaches to support breast cancer patients and survivors. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) and acupuncture can play a significant role in enhancing the quality of life during and after treatment.
Why Consider Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture?
- Symptom Management: Research shows that acupuncture can effectively reduce chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. A systematic review published in JAMA Oncology found that acupuncture significantly alleviates these symptoms, providing relief for many patients during treatment. Clinical studies have shown that Acupuncture may help to alleviate the side effects of chemotherapy, radiation, and post-surgical pain.
- Emotional Support: The emotional toll of a breast cancer diagnosis can be profound. A study in the Journal of Clinical Oncology indicated that acupuncture can help reduce anxiety and improve mood among cancer patients, fostering a greater sense of well-being.
- Enhancing Immune Function: Evidence suggests that acupuncture may positively influence immune function. A study in Cancer journal highlighted that patients receiving acupuncture showed improved immune responses, which is crucial during cancer treatment.
- Reducing Fatigue: Many breast cancer survivors experience chronic fatigue. A randomized controlled trial published in BMJ Supportive & Palliative Care demonstrated that acupuncture significantly reduced fatigue levels, helping patients regain their energy and vitality.
Take Action:
